Description

The course provides the theological and historical foundations for understanding the evolution of Christian liturgical forms, and pastoral practice. In this course we examine the major moments in the historical development of the liturgy from the New Testament era with its Jewish foundations to the present.

This course gives serious attention to exploring the local and contextual elements of liturgy, language, posture and gesture, hymnody and other music and musical instruments, and art and architecture for Christian worship. Intense examination will be given to the transcultural nature of worship, and the possibilities for cross-cultural sharingand critical approaches to liturgical practice.
