Diseño Inclusivo y Emocional. Elective for fourth- and fifth-year students, Faculty of Architecture, Universidad Católica de Salta (UCASAL). Online, in real time. Taught since 2025, with Rubén Jacob Dazarola.
Description
The course introduces inclusive design as a way of working. Students learn to design with the people who are most often left out, and to pay attention to how a place feels as well as how it functions. The course draws on my work at the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) at OCAD University.
Three ideas that guide the course
- Design for human uniqueness and variability, not for an average person.
- Keep improving your processes and tools, and ask who is still missing.
- Remember that every design decision sits inside a larger system, and consider the people it touches.
These are the three dimensions of inclusive design set out by Jutta Treviranus, which also guide the IDRC.
