Project Coordinator: David Pereyra
Artificial intelligence and automation are changing how people are hired, managed and promoted. The Future of Work and Disability asked whether these technologies will limit or improve employment opportunities and well-being for people with disabilities, and how standards could help.
The project was led by the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) at OCAD University, and I coordinated it. A study group of about fifteen people, many with lived experience of disability, met weekly for eight weeks in late 2020 and early 2021, together with researchers, AI experts, data scientists and employment organizations. I helped organize those conversations, and they became the project’s report, which Accessibility Standards Canada will use to inform best practices and policies for AI in the workplace.
